Collins Aerospace to build F-16 ventral fin using thermoplastic technology

F16

An F-16 has two ventral fins attached to the aft belly of the fuselage. Collins Aerospace will build a thermoplastic ventral fin on the Lockheed Martin F-16 for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), has awarded a contract to Collins Aerospace to develop the modern fin of the F-16. This fin will be manufactured using modern thermoplastic welding technology which will be stronger than the old fin
This technology is expected to reduce the weight and cost of the existing F-16 aircraft structure’s design.
